Little Beach Bum

For Spring break our family decided to take a last minute trip to the beach. We were really excited for Baity to experience the beach for the first time, since he going to get to spend lots of time there during the summer.

The ride to the beach, which took about 4 hrs, he did nothing but sleep and enjoy the cold air conditioning blowing on his face. If you want Baity to go right to sleep, we found that the trick is air condition!

We stopped at a farm about 2 hours into the trip to take a "busy" and dinner break. We ended up running into a lady who had her 8wk old black lab puppy with her! I couldn't believe how tiny he was compared to Baity... only six weeks earlier he had been that small! I was able to share with her what little experience I had in house training and encouragement that her puppy will pick up house breaking eventually and you just have to keep at it!

The next morning we took Baity to the ocean. Baity barely noticed the difference in the texture of the sand and walked straight to the waters edge. He sat there for a minute observing the scene before him and then quickly realized how much fun the little waves could be. We even went for a little run down the beach and he loved every minute of it! The rest of the time he just sat in the sand with me observing people playing ball, strange seagulls and loud waves. The trip to the beach was definitely a success, and looks like it may be one of Baity's favorite places to go!

Trips to the Vet

Because Baity is still really young, he is having to get lots of shots which means lots of trip to the vet. You would think being a little puppy and having to go get shot every other week would make the puppy scared...but Baity could care less about the shots. He is more interested in the friendly staff and interesting smells and enjoys going to the vet!

Loving any sort of cold surface, Baity immediately made himself comfortable on top of the table and spread out his legs in what we call the "frog legs" position.

His shots were quick and easy, and like usual, he didn't even flinch.

Fun in the Sun With Austin, Aston, and Joe!

A week and a half ago I got a call from one of the other raisers in our puppy group asking if Baity and I would like to come over for a playdate because his brother Austin was going to be in town and would be coming over with his raiser! Austin and his raiser live about 4 hours away, so I was thrilled that Baity was going to get to see one of his brothers again. Austin's raiser also raised Baity's dad, Bentley, so I was able to ask all sorts of questions about Bentley and found that in many ways Baity is just like his dad! (Scruffy neck, brown tipped ears, his love for anything cold, and many other small things)

The brotherly reunion between them both was adorable, they immediately started jumping and playing with each other. One of the first things I noticed about Austin was that he looks JUST like Baity, but it was pretty easy to tell which was which because although they looked a lot a like, Baity was quite a bit bigger than Austin. They had lots of fun rolling around, biting and tackling each other.

Not only was Austin there, but a retired guide dog named Aston and the host's dog Joe was as well. Baity and Austin spent much of their time tackling Joe... and flattening the bushes.

The rest of the day consisted of Baity doing nothing but sleeping and lounging around from exhaustion. He had a great day playing with Austin and Joe!

Wet and Wild

   Today Baity got a chance to try out his new baby pool! Not only have we discovered he likes the water, which is very good (it is also common in labs), but we have discovered he is no longer needing as many naps.

   Needless to say, he is sure keeping us on our toes. He has little spurts of energy that last longer now, except for if he plays with other dogs, goes on outings or goes on a walk. After exerting such energy, he usually likes to chill (literally) on our cold tile floor. He is after all, as we say, half polar bear.

   More and more everyday he is getting darker yellow patches. Gone are the days of him being a fuzzy white puppy with not much coordination. Now, he is able to actually run without tripping over himself. He's still quite clumsy at times, but we love him so.

   Looking back at pictures of Baity reminds me of how time has flown. The tiny puppy we once knew is tiny no longer. His massive paws suggest he will grow to be a very big dog, but we are excited sense we like big dogs. So far all is good as he is healthy and happy.

   With Baity growing older each and every day, he is now able to go to more places. Tuesday, he was able to attend Ben and  Jerry's free ice cream day, a tradition for us. He did well with some of the ice cream that was around him, and especially loved the little children when he sat down and was calm enough for them to pet him. He also got exposer to bubbles. At first he didn't know what to think of them, but soon he was busy watching them intently. Afterwards we went to lunch where he was a good dog while we eat our tacos.

   Friday morning, his primary left without him due to being unable to take him to this one place. We watched him and noticed how much more energy he had. After she came back, he was excited to see her, but soon was asleep on the cold floor after no morning nap. Later that day he got to go on an outing which I sadly missed. When I arrived home he was still awake, a big change, but then took a short siesta before dinner.

   Baity ended today with behaving well on his tie down while we watch Tron Legacy. He even started watching at one point, till he got too tired and went to sleep.

   So as you can still, our adventurous little pup still loves to sleep. However, he is needing it less and less each day. Until the next adventure! (Pictures to come soon, I promise!)

Rock-a-bye Baity

With the many adventures Baity has so far, and all the growing he is now doing, I have come to one realization: puppies need their sleep! And boy! Can Baity sleep!

As you can see, Baity loves cold things. For example air, tile floors, and especially cement floors.They are his FAVORITE to sleep on. We hope with all his sleeping that our lovely buddy is going to grow big and strong! 

First day in Coat!

Today was a big day for Baity! To start out he got to go to the puppies obedience graduation. He did great being their distraction while they were in their "stays" and loved every minute of it! It was also his first time being in coat and handled the "strange cape that seemed to be following him" very well :)

After that we decided to take him on an errand with us. Everyone awwed and gave him lots of attention which he loved. Even with all the people around him, he still managed to fall fast asleep in the middle of the store! Something we have discovered this week is that he will sleep through just about anything! Including vacuum cleaners and herds of kids. 

We then finished off the day by going out to eat and believe it or not, Baity managed to sleep through the  whole dinner! With all the sleeping and eating he's been doing, we think that Baity's going to really start growing soon!

Day 2: Meet Baity!

Today is our second day of having our wonderful guide dog puppy Baity. He is a 8wk old yellow lab (looks white), and is big and fluffy! Our family absolutely adores him, and he has made himself right at home. Sunday, the 6th, was his first night with us. Once we saw his cute little face and droopy eyes we instantly loved him. Although he has not gone to the vet yet, we are sure that he has healthy, strong lungs and vocal chords! The first night was definitely hard for him, lots of screaming on his part, but last night he slept right through the night, only whimpering softly when needing out. His favorite thing as of right now is sleeping...but we'll see how long that lasts.
